Abstract

Geniş aile üyelerine Covid-19 virüsüne ilişkin metaforik algılarının belirlenmesi amacıyla, “Covid-19 ………….. a/e benzer, Çünkü……………” biçiminde eksik bırakılmış bir cümlenin yer aldığı form kullanılmıştır.

Abstract

The aim of this study is to reveal the perceptions of the Covid-19 virus according to three generations (child, parent, root ancestor) through metaphors. The research was carried out with a total of 20 families living in the extended family dynamic in Batman province and volunteering to participate in the study. However, at the end of the study, 4 families were not included in the evaluation, since any of the family members (child, parent, root ancestry) could not make a consistent association between the metaphor and its justification. In order to determine the metaphorical perceptions of extended family members regarding the Covid-19 virus, a form with an incomplete sentence such as “Covid-19 is similar to ………….. a/e, Because ……………” was used. In this way, the perceptions of three generations regarding the Covid-19 virus; It has been tried to determine with which metaphors they will reveal, as well as to reveal the common features of metaphors. In the evaluation of the data obtained, content analysis method was used in accordance with the qualitative research design. Metaphors related to the Covid-19 virus are divided into categories. These categories are for children; They are "Loss-making", "Resembling Other Diseases", "Arousing Negative Emotions", "Disrupting Life Order", "Safe Space", "Natural Events" and "Unique in Characteristics". While “Loss”, “Resembling Other Diseases”, “Arousing Negative Emotions” and “Natural Phenomena” for parents, “Harmlessness”, “Lossness”, “Animal Resemblance”, “Functionality” and “Resemblance to Other Diseases” are for root ancestry” was formed. Accordingly, it has been stated that the general viewpoint on the Covid-19 virus, regardless of generations, is negative.
