Abstract
The phenomenon of poverty exists since ancient times in human history. At this point, from past to present, poverty has become one of the most important problems of the world societies. Poverty, which dimensions, origins and consequences changed over time, still exists in today's world. Poverty, which is the subject of study by different sciences, is a controversial area. When viewed from this angle, it is necessary to consider social, cultural, and societal realities as well as economic factors when evaluating the phenomenon of poverty. Therefore, poverty is a multidimensional phenomenon in social reality. Capitalist systems developing on a world scale and the accompanying phenomenon of globalization and neoliberalism developing have diversified and deepened poverty. Hence, the increasing urban poverty reflects a very important problem area for the world as well as for Turkey. Today, individuals mostly live in big cities. These cities are also areas where great poverty is emerging. In this context, urban poverty spreads to the social structure of the city and causes social problems and issues that concern the whole society. This study aims to address the phenomenon of poverty in general terms and to evaluate the effects and appearances of urban poverty in the social area and the social problems caused by urban poverty by examining the phenomenon, which has become the reality of cities in Turkey.

Abstract
Yoksulluk olgusu insanlık tarihinin kadim dönemlerinden beri var olan bir olgudur. Bu noktada geçmişten bugüne yoksulluk dünya toplumlarının en önemli sorunları arasında yer almaktadır. Yoksulluk geçmişten bugüne değişen boyutları, kökenleri ve neticeleri ile günümüz dünyasında da halen varlığını devam ettirmektedir. Farklı bilimler tarafından inceleme konusu olan yoksulluk tartışmalı bir alandır. Bu açıdan bakıldığında yoksulluk olgusunu değerlendirirken ekonomik faktörlerin yanı sıra sosyal, kültürel ve toplumsal gerçeklikleri de hesaba katmak gereklidir. Dolayısıyla yoksulluk sosyal gerçekliğin içerisinde çok boyutlu bir olgudur. Dünya ölçeğinde gelişen kapitalist sistemler buna bağlı olarak gelişen küreselleşme olgusu ve neoliberalizm yoksulluğu çeşitlendirmiş ve derinleştirmiştir. Dolayısıyla tüm dünyada artan kentsel yoksulluk Türkiye için de oldukça önemli bir sorun alanını yansıtmaktadır. Bugün Türkiye’de bireyler genellikle büyük kentlerde yaşamaktadırlar. Bu kentler aynı zamanda büyük yoksullukların kendini inşa ettiği alanlardır. Bu bağlamda kentsel yoksulluk kentin sosyal bünyesine sirayet ederek kentlerde yaşanan toplumsal sorunlara ve tüm toplumu ilgilendiren konulara kaynaklık etmektedir. Bu noktada, bu çalışmanın amacı; yoksulluk olgusuna genel hatlarıyla değinmek ve Türkiye’nin kentlerinin gerçeği olan kentsel yoksulluk olgusunu inceleyerek kentsel yoksulluğun toplumsal alandaki etkilerini, görünümlerini ve kentsel yoksulluğun kaynaklık ettiği sosyal sorunları değerlendirmektir.
