Akademide Zihniyet Sorunu: Nur Vergin’in “Bilim Camiası ve Tanınma İsteği” Makalesi Üzerinden Bir Okuma

Abstract
Bu makalede amaç Türk üniversitelerinde zihniyet sorununa odaklanmaktır. Bu anlamda Türk sosyolog Nur Vergin'in 1999 tarihinde Doğu Batı Dergisi'nin yedinci sayısında Akademi ve İktidar başlığını taşıyan temada, "Bilim Camiası ve Tanınma İsteği" adlı makalesi üzerinden bir okuma yapılacaktır. Vergin'e göre üniversite hocasının tatmin olması gereken bir "isteği" vardır. Bu "istek" onun ürettikleriyle "tanınma" isteğidir. Bu bağlamda Vergin, üniversitelerde entelektüel vafıf ve değer üretebilmenin karşılığı olup olmadığı hususunda çeşitli sorular sormaktadır. Akademi üzerine yazdığı bu makalesinde bir dizi analizden sonra, "Soruyu sormanın zamanı gelmiştir" diyerek sorularını yöneltmektedir. Bu makale ise Vergin'in sorularını anlamlandırmaya çalışırken, bir yandan üniversitelerde sevk ve idare sorunu, diğer yandan akademisyenlerde zihniyet sorunu hususunda eşzamanlı bir çevçeve sunmaya çalışmaktadır.

The aim in this article is to focus on the existence of mindset problem in the Turkish universities. In this context, the reading will occur through Turkish sociologist Nur Vergin’s article titled “Scientific Community and Desire for Recognition” that was published in the seventh issue of Doğu Batı Journal in 1999, under the theme of “Academy and Power”. According to Nur Vergin, university professors have a “desire” that needs to be satisfied, and this “desire” is their aspiration to be “recognized” for what they produce. In this context, Nur Vergin questions about whether intellectual qualification and the ability to generate value have or does not have any equivalence. In the article she wrote about the academy, after a series of analyses, she asks her questions by saying “It’s time to ask question”. Therefore, this paper both tries to make sense of the questions Nur Vergin asks and offers a simultaneous framework regarding the issue of management in universities on the one hand and the mindset problem of academics on the other hand.
