Abstract

Abstract

The study entitled "Evaluation of the Güvercinlik-Obruk Caves (Değiş-Derbent)" aims to uncover the processes that contributed to the formation of the Güvercinlik and Obruk caves within the Derbent district. Observations and assessments were made during visits to the research area at various dates.

The formation and evolution of the Obruk and Güvercinlik caves are influenced by the geological structure and underground water. The Obruk Cave is located on the western slope of Incekum Hill at an elevation of 1572 meters. On the western slope of Incekum Hill, the layer has formed in a downward direction. The entrance to the cave has a width of 1.67 m in the north-south direction and 1.42 m in the east-west direction and is accessible through a single entrance. The length of the gallery in the vertically-formed cave is 104 m and its depth is -99 m. The floor is covered in moist soil and the ceiling supports plants that thrive in humid environments. There is no toxic gas in the first 10 meters of the cave. The Güvercinlik Cave has formed at three different points in a downward direction on the north-northwest slope of İncekum Hill. The length of the gallery is 24 m and its depth is -12 m. The ground is dry and there is no gas hazard. As a karstic cave group, the Güvercinlik and Obruk Caves exhibit characteristics of a sinkhole in terms of formation. In conclusion, it is recommended to conduct a comprehensive study of the Obruk Cave and to evaluate its potential for tourism based on its findings.
