Abstract

Abstract

Ancient Egyptian civilization and cities, which are among the leading mysterious and magnificent civilizations, were built around the Nile River in 3000 BC by King Menes. The emergence of cities, which changed in many places in the historical process, in Ancient Egypt shows a completely different vision. Perhaps a lot of things survived from Ancient Egypt, where there were no firmly established cities surrounded by walls, but not much remained of the cities themselves. Open space projects with columns in urban settlements in Egyptian civilization, monumental structures, geometric order and formalism in spatial configuration, landscape characteristics of sand dune areas, courtyards, and palm trees, which are decisive in the city silhouette, are the main elements of the urban image. It is seen that the pyramids, which were the monumental tombs and temples in cities in ancient Egypt, were the dominant structures of the city silhouette. It is possible to argue that the informal urban texture was integrated with the structures in which distinctive geometric forms were preferred on the formal plane with limited open space buildings. It is already known that the urbanization process, the increase in architectural structures, agricultural progress, and the administrative system developed after the transition to settled life in Egypt. Naturally, this process also shaped social life and brought with it the emergence of some occupational groups and various classes. Ancient Egyptian cities that did not develop at adequate levels did not have sewer systems and the people were deprived of urban life. For this reason, these can be listed as the obstacles to urban development. In Ancient Egypt, where the people lived a monotonous life, the cities remained in the same monotony, and their art followed the same line for millennia.
