Symbolic Narration of Social Disintegration in the Gypsy/Roma Society: “Ağır Roman” as a Literary and Cinematic Work

Abstract
In this study, the social change and social disintegration processes of the Gypsy/Roma society, which exists as a subculture in Turkey, are examined through the works written by Metin Kaçan under the title Ağır Roman and adapted to the cinema by Mustafa Altıoklar with the same name. Social change can sometimes turn into a disintegration process that produces tragic results in subcultural groups that adopt a uniquely isolated life with the prevalence of acts that are often described as crime or deviance in the society. In this context, Ağır Roman, which deals with the conflicting social change process of the Gypsies/Roma in the context of Cholera, offers a rich imagination of social disintegration in the context of both the differences reflected in the appearance of the prominent characters and the distinctive language they use, and the marginal social relations woven with these characters.

Bu çalışmada, Türkiye’de bir alt kültür olarak varlık gösteren Çingene/Roman toplumunun toplumsal değişme ve sosyal çözülme süreçleri, Metin Kaçan tarafından Ağır Roman ismiyle kaleme alınan ve Mustafa Altıoklar tarafından aynı isimle sinemaya uyarlanan yapıtlar üzerinden irdelenmektedir. Toplumda çoğunlukla suç veya sapma olarak nitelenen eylemlerin yaygınlığıyla kendine özgü yalıtılmış bir yaşamı benimseyen alt kültür gruplarında toplumsal değişim bazen trajik sonuçlar üreten bir çözülme sürecine dönüşebilir. Bu bağlamda Çingenelerin/Romanların çatışmalı toplumsal değişim sürecini Kolera özelinde ele alan Ağır Roman, gerek öne çıkan karakterlerinin görünümüne yansıyan farklılıklar ve kullandıkları ayrıksı dil gerekse bu karakterlerle örülen marjinal toplumsal ilişkiler bağlamında sosyal çözülmeye ilişkin zengin bir imgelem sunmaktadır.
