Abstract
Yastık testi seramik formları ile özdeşleşen seramik sanatçısı Betty Woodman, üretim hayatına bir zanaatkâr olarak başlamıştır. Sonraları yaşadığı travmatik olay, dönemin sanat akımlarının etkisi, ayrıca malzemeye ve malzemenin ifade edebileceklerine dair düşüncelerinin değişmesi ile üretim pratiklerini geliştiren sanatçı, Metropolitan Sanat Müzesinde kişisel sergi açan ilk yaşayan kadın sanatçı ve seramikçi olmuştur. Zaman içinde imzası haline gelen yastık testi formları; sanatçının fonksiyonel seramik üretiminden çıkarak ürettiği ilk form olduğu için, geldiği noktada oldukça önemli bir yere sahiptir. Aynı zamanda çağdaşları ile birlikte desen ve dekorasyon akımından etkilenmesi, erkek egemen bir seramik topluluğunda yer alan ilk kadın olması da Woodman’ın sanatsal sürecinde önemli rol oynamıştır. Tüm bu altyapıya bağlı olarak eserlerinde kullandığı formlar, canlı renkler ve yüzeyi değerlendirme biçimi; Picasso, Miro ve benzerleri gibi farklı disiplinlerde çalışan sanatçıların seramikteki özgürlüğünü anımsatmaktadır. Sanatçı her ne kadar seramiği bir zanaatkâr gibi öğrenmiş olsa da, malzemenin o dönemde getirdiği muhafazakâr tavrı bir şekilde arkasında bırakmayı başarmış ve adeta başka bir disiplinden gelmişçesine özgür bir şekilde üretmeyi başarmıştır.

Abstract
Ceramic artist Betty Woodman, identified with pillow pitcher ceramic forms, started her production life as a craftswoman. The artist, who developed her production practices with the traumatic event she experienced afterwards, the effect of the art movements of the period, as well as the change of her thoughts about the material and what it can express; She was the first living female artist and ceramicist to hold a solo exhibition at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Pillow pitchers have a very important place in the artist's point of view. These forms, which have become the signature of Woodman over time, have a very important place at the point she has reached, as they are the first form she produced out of the production of functional ceramics. At the same time, being influenced by the pattern and decoration movement with her contemporaries and being the first woman to take part in a male-dominated ceramic community played an important role in Woodman's artistic process. Based on all this background, the forms used in her works, vivid colors and the way she evaluates the surface; It reminds the freedom in ceramics of artists working in different disciplines such as Picasso, Miro and the like. Although the artist learned ceramics like a craftswoman, she somehow managed to leave behind the conservative attitude of the material at that time and managed to produce freely as if she came from another discipline.
