Abstract
Suç korkusu bireylerin gündelik yaşamındaki günlük rutinlerini etkileyen önemli bir toplumsal problemdir. Bireyler belirli bir suçun mağduru olma korkusuyla kendilerini güvende hissedemeyebilirler bu durum onların yaşam kalitesini de etkilemektedir. Bu açıdan değerlendirildiğinde suç korkusu kavramı bireylerin çevresiyle kurduğu ilişki biçimlerini de etkilemekte, bir bakıma bireyi toplumdan soyutlamaktadır. Çalışma suç korkusunu etkileyen bir boyut olarak medya ve suç korkusu ilişkisi üzerine odaklanmaktadır. Medya günümüzde bireylerin yaşamında çok önemli bir yere sahip olan bir araç konumundadır. Modern birey çevresinde ve dünyada olan biten olaylardan çok hızlı bir biçimde haber almaktadır. Bu durum aynı zamanda medyanın bireyleri yönlendirme gücünü ve bu durumun yarattığı problemleri de akıllara getirmektedir. Çalışma medyanın hangi durumlarda suç korkusuna neden olduğunu irdeleyecektir. Bu anlamda çalışmanın son kısmında medyanın sansasyonel habercilik anlayışının suç korkusuna olan etkileri tartışılacak ve bu durumun olası etkileri örneklerle incelenecektir. Çalışmamız aynı zamanda sorumlu bir yayıncılık anlayışının bireylerin suç korkusunu nasıl azaltabileceğini bu konuda medyaya düşen görevin neler olduğunu da ortaya koyacaktır.

Abstract
Fear of crime is one of the most important social problems affecting the routine activities of individuals in their daily lives. Individuals might not feel safe since they are scared of being victimized by a specific crime, which affects their quality of life. From this perspective, the concept of fear of crime also affects forms of relationships established by an individual's surroundings, and an individual is isolated from society. This study, in this context, focuses on the relationship between media and fear of crime as a factor affecting fear of crime. Nowadays, media plays an important role in an individuals’ daily life. The modern individual receives news very quickly from the events in the immediate surroundings and around the world. At the same time, this situation is related to misleading power of media's orientation and the problems created by this situation. The study examines in which situations the media causes fear of crime. In this view, in the last section of the study, the effects of the concept of sensational journalism on fear of crime will be discussed, and the possible effects will be examined by considering the previous researches in this field. The study also attempts to show how a responsible broadcasting approach might reduce the possible effects of fear of crime on an individual basis, and to reflect the potential mission of media.
