The aim of this study is to examine the impact of external debt burden, current account deficit, and external debt service on economic growth in the Turkish economy during the period 2000-2024. The ARDL Bounds Test approach was used in the empirical analysis part of the study. Data for the variables were obtained from the World Bank database. According to the findings of this study, there is a strong cointegration relationship between the variables. Long-term empirical findings confirm the " Debt Overhang " hypothesis in the literature for the Turkish case. Increases in the external debt stock statistically negatively affect economic growth in the long term. Short-term analyses revealed that total debt service payments create a liquidity constraint, suppressing investments. This leads to a sharp contractionary effect on economic growth. The study emphasizes that in order to achieve macroeconomic stability in Türkiye, external financing dependence should be reduced, foreign direct investment should be encouraged, and import substitution industrial policies that will narrow the structural current account deficit should be implemented.
