This study comprehensively examines the technological transformation in the automotive industry, particularly the phenomenon of electrification, from a historical, theoretical, and empirical perspective. The historical dynamics of industrial transformation are analyzed within the framework of Kondratieff long waves, technological revolutions, and Schumpeter's theory of creative destruction; the macroeconomic importance of the automotive sector is addressed in the context of global production networks (GPN) and value chain analysis (GVC). The focus of the study is the conceptualization of the vehicle electrification degree and the comparative analysis of BEV, PHEV, HEV, and FCEV technologies. The literature review systematically evaluates studies focusing on sustainability, green supply chain management, digitalization, servitization, and the economic effects of transformation in the automotive sector. The findings reveal that the four technologies address different usage scenarios in line with the decarbonization goal, that advances in battery technologies will make BEVs the dominant technology in the next decade, and that HEVs will serve as a bridge in developing markets until the infrastructure transformation is completed.
