Pierre Bourdieu’s Practical Reasons is a theoretical work compiled from lectures that brings together philosophy, anthropology, and sociology. Across seven chapters, the book approaches class differences through the concepts of social and symbolic space and examines their cultural and symbolic dimensions alongside economic inequalities. Bourdieu treats taste not as a purely individual preference but as a social phenomenon related to habitus and cultural capital, demonstrating its role in the reproduction of social stratification. The book also discusses the education system’s role in the transmission of capital, the influence of the state on individuals, forms of physical and symbolic violence, and the logic of interest and reciprocity. In its final chapter, it critiques the scholastic point of view and emphasizes that social practices can be understood only within their historical, cultural, and relational contexts.
