Abstract

Abstract

Procrastination behavior is an important issue which has been the subject of many disciplines for many years, and its causes and consequences have been emphasized. To date, many studies have been conducted explaining procrastination behavior. Temporal Motivation Theory is one of the latest and contemporary motivation theories that explains procrastination behavior in detail. Temporal Motivation Theory, which can be used to explain many behaviors, was used to explain procrastination behavior in this research. Temporal Motivation Theory, which is formed by combining the theories of hyperbolic reduction, expectation theory, cumulative probability theory and need theory, provides a very substantial explanation for procrastination behavior. Quantitative research methods were used in the study. In this context, 703 university student participants were reached. The dimensions of Temporal Motivation Theory are measured by the "Motivational Diagnostic Scale" and the procrastination behavior is measured by the "Irrational Procrastination Scale". The delay variable of the study was the time interval between the presentation of the data collection tool to the students and the delivery date. The results of the research support that there is a relationship between temporal motivation dimensions and procrastination behavior.
