Separation In The Same Space: An Assessment Of David Harvey's Spatial Difference Theory

According to Harvey, spatial differentiation should be described within the framework of the reproduction of social relations within the capitalist society, in other words, through social differentiation. And there are three factors that cause social differentiation. The first factor is the transition towards a capital-intensive manufacturing type from a labor-intensive manufacturing type, following the industrial revolution. Harvey describes the second factor as a series of components that give acceleration to the social differentiation which is created by capitalism during its development process. These are functional specialization and division of labor, authority relations, ideological and political manipulations and the obstacles that are placed within the movement area of the society. According to Harvey, the third factor is the various components that include the social relationships that are established within the previous dependant manufacturing type. According to Harvey, it is possible to expand the third component by listing the social facts that cause the conflict between the capitalist system and period before the capitalist system. Created as a result of the above-mentioned three components, the differentiation carries the society and the city towards a spatial differentiation. Spatial differentiation is the manifestation of the differentiation that causes a dissolution in many areas, and that becomes a cycle. Harvey describes this manifestation as the differentiation of the possibilities to reach the insufficient necessary resources in order to access the market units and equipment. Cities can be separated into neighborhood units in which each class sustains itself. In other words, every social status unit can form a group and can settle in spaces differentiated as blue collars and white collars. Therefore, it may cause the structuring of the next generation's economic space with the same status. The choices, preferences and value systems of the individuals have a significant place in the explanation of the spatial differentiation. David Harvey defends that these are formed involuntarily. In this study, David Harvey's spatial differentiation theory and the criticisms of this theory were analyzed.

The rapid transformation of information communication technologies in the world after 1980 has made the concept of e-government more and more important both in theory and practice. The e-government applications, which are considered to be almost indispensable for the effective and efficient functioning of public administration, have gained a considerable place in both the academic writing and the practice in Turkish Public Administration. Turkey which has shown important development in the subjects such as the creation of infrastructure in the transformation process of e-government, reaching operational adequacy to desired level has still have deficiencies in transfer of public services to electronic environment completely. Via the process e-government provides for Turkey, the country has succeeded both the increase interaction between state-individual and interactions between businesses-state, between officers-state and among public associations The problems such as inadequacy of social demand, transparency and inadequacy of participation, lack of legal infrastructure, security concerns, financial problems in e-government transformation process, failure of qualified personnel, leaving e-government transformation generally to the leaders’ authority are the main problems Turkey has to overcome in the process of e-government transformation.

The constitution of a group’s identity in a foreign region is always problematic, because it is difficult to adapt to the cultural and behavioural approaches of a new place. The Bangladeshi British community, which began to migrate to the eastern regions of London two centuries ago to seek better employment and a gainful livelihood, is one example of such a situation. Members of this community are confused about determining whether they are compatible with Islamic cultural identities or should instead hold a common position with many non-Islamic practices and cultures. As a result, they feel alienated. Written by Monica Ali, Brick Lane is a novel about alienation of immigrants, focusing specifically on women from Bangladesh to England. This study aims to explicate how these Bangladeshi people have formed their collective identity in England’s capital city and how they are alienated. In this study, the sense of alienation experienced by immigrants will be examined through the lens of both women and men, by examining Nazneen and Chanu characters in the novel.

Since the beginning of 19. centuries in the Europe growing anti-semitism in the Palestinian territories, aftermath of the idea of establishing a state for Jews has been accepted in some Jewish circles. For this reason, the Jewish population in the Ottoman administration increased depending on the Jewish immigration towards Palestine. After the world War 2, the administrative rights taken by the UN in Palestine, in place of the regime of UK Israel was established. Until today the events that occurred in the face of writers who lived in Palestine against the occupation of artifacts and achieved goals is the subject of artifacts. In the literature of resistance poetry, stories, novels, newspapers and magazines has been written. Thus, Literature has shown that worrier pens are more effective than weapons. While a gun has a unidirectional effect, literary works reached and penetrated a wide audience. The literature of Palestinian resistance has assumed the responsibility of explaining for Palestinian people's suffering and difficulties to the whole world. When authors do that, attributed meaning to the words as much as they can carry and they sentimentalized about this. They turned their pens to guns. They expressed the feelings to readers by using symbols when they realized that words were not enough. The literature of Palestinian resistance is compatible with every aspect and it ensured full compliance to modern Arabic literature. This literary genre is serving for a two-way flow of information: Firstly, it aims that telling 'what happened in Palestine' to others and notify them. Secondly, telling the new events in the Arab world to the Palestinian people.

In every age, social and cultural phenomena, which are in the memory of society, need to be transferred to new generations. The recording of events and phenomena is a common area of both history and literature. However, historian and historical novelist approach to the same period, people or events with different methods. The historian seeks truth from some data and documents, but the artist does not have to transfer the historical reality as it is. In this context, the artist presents details about the period outside the official history learned from the history books. It is up to the 18th century in Europe that writers establish arbitration based on historical reality. One of the pioneers of English literature, Walter Scott's novels, influenced by Scottish history, spread to other European countries such as Germany and France, thus the genre of roman historical novels was born. Today, the debate on the definition of historical novel is still valid in literature research. On the other hand, many researchers and writers agree that this genre reinterprets historical reality with literature-specific methods and techniques. Alev Alatlı tells the life of a woman born as Eleni and turned into Naciye Arif with her novel ‘Yaseminler Tüter Mi Hala? was published in 1985. While constructing the novel based on interpersonal social, cultural and ideological conflict, it provides clues about Cyprus events. The case is set in the 1950s, but the novel is based on a broad historical background. In this study, we aim to examine the novel ‘Yaseminler Tüter mi Hala? beside from the context of Cyprus and Eleni in the context of historical novels.

There are such writers who precede some words and sentences in their discourse.Their word strengthens the images; and their images strengthens meanings. While constructing his narratives with the language of the people who were pushed out of society, he cares about the loss of people in the war with modernism, their irregularity and reaction by expression. Using unusual words in the same context, he tells both problems and contradictions and seeks to get rid of them. As the character's identity is alienated, he reveals that his rebellion and scream will be heard. Twelve Gram Happiness brings the two worlds side by side with words, phrases and syntaxes. Twelve stories are shaped by emotions, beliefs, wishes and desires with a limit of twelve minutes. With the change of age, the degeneration of values and overwhelming the people because of the relationship based on self-interest made a search obligatory for people. For him, the desire not to get lost in the wild, in modern society, not to be crushed further and to announce his existence has become important, but different and attractive life understanding has influenced him. In this context, he will narrate his desire to live time with his interrogations between the two cultures, but he cannot escape the search for identity in the two-way of the moment. Because the human body is human with its values, false and truths.

Ibrahim Alkan is a folk poet trying to carry on the ashik tradition devotedly away from his homeland. He is from Sivas, and he migrated to Germany with his family because of financial difficulties. He still lives there. While taking part in the struggle against all the difficulties of life, Ibrahim Alkan has turned to his instrument, saz, and he has both played and sung. Although he is away from his homeland, the poet has written his poems with a pure version of the Turkish language. Moreover, he has benefited from “unconventional associations” by making use of the subtle nuances of the Turkish language to embellish his narrative. Unconventional associations are formed when two different concepts that do not have a semantic integrity come together and express new meanings. This study aims to understand his effective and regardful use of unconventional associations which shows his linguistic performance despite the fact that he has lived for a long time without speaking his native language. When compared to those who forgot their cultural identity after leaving their homeland, Ibrahim Alkan didn’t experience any identity confliction. He has clung on to both his own native language and the ashik tradition, and he became a devoted poet who tries to maintain the ashik tradition.

For some cities like İstanbul, Rome, Paris and Cairo etc. as being the ones having natural and cultural heritage intensively, the most dominant planning data is the heritage itself. If we talk of sustainable planning, we should talk of not only the true planning regarding ecological principles, but also protection and reassesment of cultural and natural heritage at circumstances regarding sustainability, therefore this has to recognized as a true sign of ecological approach. On the other hand, one of the applied tools of Sustainability; “Sustainable Planning” as a correspondence of “Sustainable Development” in planning, is meant to use the nature and resources in the name of protecting them, for the sake of caring future generations. Today, World’s energy strategies based on solid fuel and petrol, unbalanced resource consumption with least sense, consuming environment negatively, increasing rates at population, consumption and urbanization, the lack of fast regeneration in nature, and many other parameters like the ones above which will remain unmentioned, threaten ‘Sustainability’ in direct. The purpose of this article, instead of consuming resources in the sense above, is to show of assessing cultural and natural heritages (for being ecological resource in essence and reflecting histo-cultural aggregation of humanity) and of using it as an input, by verifying the feasibility of it to be a paremeter providing-supporting the mentality of ecological planning and cultural sustainability. Sustainable planning must be expected to create principles and decisions regarding to protect-use balance for this heritage which is under the threat and pressure of civic developments. The use of cultural and historical heritage as an argument in Sustainable planning is given as of work and reports, international contracts and reported decisions related to these all are also given as references

Glazes attracting attention with their metallic and different effects are included in the reduction glazes since the past. Metallic effects and different color transitions formed on the ceramic surface as a result of reduction cause highly attractive artistic appearance. When the metallic glazed and decorated tiles are examined, it is seen that special metallic printing bases, granules, special glazes are used and metallic effect can be obtained by oxidation firing. In this study, it is aimed to develop different metallic glaze compositions by oxidation firing and to determine the effects of different raw materials on metallic glaze appearance. Glaze compositions were formed on the ulexite-sodium feldspar-quartz ternary system and copper oxide was additionally used in the recipes to create metallic effect. In addition, borax and lead oxide (Pb3O4) raw materials were added to the compositions selected from recipes and their effects on metallic glaze appearance were determined. Metallic glaze mixtures prepared in the laboratory were fired at 1100°C and 1200°C for 7 hours. Additionally, the metallic glazes were applied on three-dimensional forms and photographed and examined.

The Persian ghazels in Abdurrahmân Khalis’s (1275/1858) Dîvân explain divine love. In the ghazels where the thinnest subjects of Sufism are articulated with literary arts, the self-purification, the states of extinction in the love of God and wahdet idea are processed. There are 27 Persian ghazels in Abdurrahman Hâlis Kerkûkî’s Dîvân. The subjects covered in Persian ghazals are the same as the original. In all, the idea of divine love and wahdet is told. The ghazals among the masterpieces of Sufi literacy give secrets from the cases of the Hakk path passengers who plunged into the divine love sea. Several of the Persian ghazals were published in the Sufism Magazine by Sheikh Safvet. Abdurrahman Hâlis Kirkûkî, emphasized the main sources of Sufism in his ghazals. It is possible to see these themes in the verses of the ghazals written for İmam Aliyyü’l-Murtezâ and Abdulkâdir Geylânî. “It is difficult to get out of the darkness of being, without the sun of Najaf shining up and illuminating the world. If a person drinks a drop of the water of the Najaf’s river, he will find endless life.” “His judgment moon is not get forever. Because that moon takes its light from the sun of Muhammed Aleyhisselam who is the most auspicious of the creatures.” This study is the Turkish translation of the ghazels in the Khalis’s Dîvân.

Families who have the consciousness of urbanism are one of the important factors in bringing the cities to a healthy state and ensuring their sustainability in the future. Families living in cities are not sufficient enough for growth. The fact that urbanly conscious households are not at the desired level in aspect of both quantitatively and qualitatively is one of the problems awaiting solution. This situation affects urban sociology and economy in a negative way. In addition, it causes a great economic damage to the affected country. A healthy urbanization is only possible if the immigrants coming to the city interact with the other groups in a way that they form a whole without or before becoming identical with other groups. In this context, it is very important to investigate the migration tendency of households. For this purpose, the mechanisms that affect the integration process of households who migrated to Şanlıurfa city such as the perception of the city, urban awareness, participation in urban institutions, ownership of the city and sensitivity to urban problems were examined. We decided to use a quantitative research method in this study. Within the scope of the research, 384 households living in 20 neighborhoods in Şanlıurfa were surveyed. The data obtained after the survey was evaluated with SPSS. According to the results obtained from the application, the neighborhoods showed different developments in terms of socio-cultural and socio-economic aspect. While some of these variables exhibit characteristics that maintain the rural character and reflect the characteristics of the regions they come from, some variables show urban characteristics. However, in most of the variables both rural and urban life are seen and the transition from rural to urban life is continuing constantly
