In addition to the formation of a city, many natural or artificial components contribute to the formation of urban identity. Among these components, green patterns also play an important role as well as architectural elements. Plants are the most important material of the green spaces which serve many ecosystem services economically, social, cultural and ecologically. Therefore, the use of the right plant species should gain importance as a strengthening element as far as architectural structures which leave a mark in citizens’ memories. As a matter of fact, plantings resemble each other and do not reflect the character of the regions in most of our cities in recent years. In this study, a sample study on the use of plant material with an approach to support the image and visual quality of the cities has been revealed. Artvin, Rize and Trabzon cities were selected as sample areas and an expert questionnaire was conducted in order to determine the plants that would provide identification in the planting designs in these cities. Considering the preference rates and some morphological and aesthetic features of 34 plant species determined by the questionnaire, plant composition proposals were proposed for three provinces in and around the city. Consequently, it is thought that the use of native plant species that can reflect the character of each region in urban planting designs will contribute to the urban identity in terms of aesthetically and ecologically.

While 75% of the total population in Turkey was living in rural areas in 1950, this rate fell to 25% in 2017. Agglomeration of population in cities resulted in irregular urbanization, problems of transportation, environment, housing, education, unemployment, security, water and infrastructure. There is a necessity to implement reverse migration new plans and projects that will prevent migration from rural population. This study aims to reveal the factors that enabled reverse migration in Kadıoğluçiftliği where reverse migration project was implemented. By conducting fieldwork and in-depth interviews in the research area, causes and consequences of population growth in Kadıoğluçiftliği were analyzed from the standpoint of geography. First of all, rural-urban distribution of population, throughout Turkey and in Kahramanmaraş has been illustrated. Development process of the population during 1990-2017 has been comparatively analyzed by compiling the population data of 26 villages in the Türkoğlu Plain from TSI (Turkish Statistical Institute). Total population ratio has increased by 34,6% in Kadıoğluçiftliği, which is a typical rural settlement. However, population of other 25 villages in the Türkoğlu Plain has decreased. In the fieldwork studies conducted in the Türkoğlu Plain, it was determined that the main reason of this situation was agricultural production method. Open farming (field agriculture) is carried out in 25 villages in the Türkoğlu Plain, which has fertile soil dominated by the Mediterranean climate that allows vast agricultural cultivations. It has been observed that in 25 villages in the Türkoğlu plain, where the Mediterranean climate prevailed, open farming (field farming) was carried out and in the village of Kadıoğluçiftliği, covered farming (greenhouse) and modern animal husbandry activities were carried out. Greenhouse cultivation and modern livestock production activities were observed. In-depth interviews were carried out about the issue with farmers in village. The data were analyzed by thematic analysis method. Implementation of counter-migration in this village can be proposed as a model to be implemented throughout the country.

In this article, by the help of novels and tales of Siegfried Lenz who is a writer of German Literature in 20. century, the answers for the question ‘’What is the meaning of life?’’ were tried to be found out. For this purpose, the life, perspective on life, values, works of Lenz were viewed. These days the meaning of life is often questioned. Especially, tales and novels of Lenz and other scientific works are like a guide for people who try to get rid of existential vacuum. In this way our work interrogates fundamental structures of life which is meaningful, happy and peaceful and comes up with these problems by unearthing current socio-economic, cultural and social problems. To reach these goals, the biography of Siegfried Lenz was examined; a research method which focuses on passage by doing literature scanning on primary sources and secondary sources has been chosen. Acquired findings point out as a source of existence problems, colonialism which has increased the speed, mechanization, contest, competition and capitalist system which obliges the consumption and as a result of this also, point out the fact of war which turned upside-down the meaning of life. According to Lenz, these factors which dynamite happy and meaningful life prompted human being to existential vacuum and caused to face with some problems such as selfishness, jealousy, stress, fear, pessimism, loneliness. One of the factor as source of problems which Lenz points out is absolutely fondness to materiality and materialism. In his opinion, wishing more than what people own, have caused significant problems in society. We are a witness to this reality from many works of Lenz’s characters who goes after earthly pleasures and passions such as glory, reputation, money, position, woman and damages which these characters give themselves and environment. Almost in his all works, Lenz tries to draw attention to moral and humanistic values for a meaningful life, unconditional love, world peace instead of going after such pleasures and passions.

Niccolo Machiavelli is a writer the influence of whose works on the present day political ideas about the characteristics of a good prince as well as his understanding of politics have still be discussed through especially his books The Prince (1513) and The Discourses (1528) which he wrote at the beginning of the sixteenth century. In this study, it will be discussed how Machiavelli's understanding of politics may have affected politicians and policies we have encountered in the play Snogging Ken. Snogging Ken, which was written by Tariq Ali, Howard Brenton, and Andy de la Tour in the year 2000, discusses the political developments ahead of London's mayoral elections held in the same year. The methods that do not have the moral boundaries imposed by Tony Blair and his team so that Ken Livingstone, who decided to run for election as an independent candidate because he was not a candidate for Labor, was not successful in the elections, and their similarities with Machiavellian view of politics and good leader will be examined. In addition, why Gordon Brown wants Livingstone to be the successful though he is the finance minister of the period will be studied. As a result, the current leader of the Labour Party, Blair, and its future leader Gordon Brown will be scrutinized by how much they adhere to Machiavelli's good leader definition and how much they refer to the methods that he recommends to be used in politics.

This work is based on the idea that there are qualitative differences between the concepts of women’s studies and feminist theories and that these differences originate from the changing world order and the changing social sciences. These differences between women’s studies and feminist theory are set out as follows: Firstly, while feminist theory originates from social antagonism and opposition, the coming of women’s studies to the agenda after the 1980s is a result of an adaptation process to the existing institutional structures. Secondly, feminist theory has gone to the way of formation of different theoretical openings by departing from different understandings of “woman”. On the other hand, women’s studies try to arrive at the universal and the general about “woman”. Thirdly, feminist theory aims to study the patriarchal system and the women’s subordination theoretically whereas women’s studies prefer to conduct applicative studies in order to understand women’s situation in society. In this study, which has been shaped in the context of the above objectives, it can be said that an evaluation of the institutionalized women's researches in the context of the changing social sciences understanding in the world is being made. The social scientific transformation, which started after the 1945s and showed its effect after the 70s, has also shown itself in the field of feminist theory and women's studies.

Bullwhip can be defined as a concept explaining inventory fluctuations or inefficient asset allocations or unneeded and mostly excessive inventory buildup as a result of demand changes as one goes further up to the supply chain. In this case manufacturers often encounter with a decrease in forecast accuracy as the buffer increases between the customer and the manufacturer. Consequently, bullwhip effect drastically harms business performance and inventory management and activities. Members, actors or partners in any given supply chain should tackle bullwhip effect delicately in order to have high business performance and succeed in what they do. Guanxi can be seen as one of ways or methods to deal with bullwhip effect. The word of Guanxi has a Chinese origin. And Guanxi is a general Chinese term used to describe relationships that may result in the exchanges of the favors or connections that are beneficial for the parties involved. Guanxi can be seen as a remedy for bullwhip effect because; one of the reasons why bullwhip effect occurs is lack of information sharing. And Guanxi necessitates information sharing among partners. In the light of the notions given above, main purpose of the study is to investigate whether quanxi has an impact on bullwhip effect and business performance and also to find out whether or not bullwhip effect has a negative impact on business performance. 150 manufacturing companies were interviewed by employing face to face questionnaires to satisfy the main purpose of the study. And according to the results Guanxi doesn’t have an impact on bullwhip effect but has a positive effect on business performance which means as Guanxi in the supply chain increases manufacturing companies’ business performance increases. And also bullwhip effect has a negative impact on business performance which means when bullwhip effect increases business performance decreases. Consequently, in the study it was determined that Guanxi can be employed by firms to increase their business performance. And bullwhip effect should be mitigated to keep business performance at high level.

Due to the earthquake in Turkey, thousands of people lost their lives, hundreds of thousands of people remain homeless. Nevertheless, people have not taken the necessary measures for disasters. The main reason for this is that disasters are not seen as a social cause. With the damages caused by disasters and developing technology, humanity has investigated the ways of combating disasters. In our country especially after the 1999 Marmara earthquake, the economic effects of earthquakes have come to the agenda. For this purpose, Natural Disaster and Insurance Institution was established in 2000 and has been working until now on the insurance of private property areas for certain hazards. In the calculation of premiums, three criteria (square meter of space, earthquake degree of provinc and building material of building) are taken into consideration. The main purpose of earthquake insurances should ensure that risks to disaster are prevented. In this study, the criteria will be examined; It will be determined whether the management of risks are effective. Suggestions of criteria will be made if not seen enough. The institutions and organizations that will take part in the calculation studies will be determined. and it will be investigated that the need can be met. Different awareness-raising activities will be investigated in order to increase the insurance rates to be done aimed at disasters.

GSM mobile technology, which comes to mind when you think of mobile telecommunications market, has been put into service on 23 February 1994 in Turkey. Turkey Mobile Telecommunications Market has been structured between 1994-2001 with two operators, between 2001-2004 with four operators, and after 2004, with their current names Turkcell, Vodafone and TT Mobile, with three operators. In 2008, BTK, the regulatory authority of the Turkish Mobile Telecommunications Market, implemented the mobile number portability regulation in which subscribers can carry their mobile number to any operator or service within certain rules. With this regulation, which means that phone numbers are taken out of the ownership of the operator and given to the consumer property, is aimed at a more competitive market by reducing the switching costs. In this study, the Turkish Mobile Telecommunications Market was analyzed and the effects of mobile number portability regulation were evaluated by non-econometric methods. By the end of 2017, a total of 112 million numbers were ported in the market with approximately 80 million mobile subscribers. The high number of ported mobile numbers, the rise in subscriber churn rates and the decline in the market concentration were determined as the positive effects of mobile number portability. Increasing postpaid subscriber and off-net call rates were evaluated as the success of strategies developed against mobile number portability. As a result, the positive effects have been limited and the market has continued to be structured far from competitive levels.

The Seljuks who have a very important place among the civilization that are active in political and cultural formation of Anatolia, gained the place they deserve in the history of civilization as the creators of considerable works in the field of metal art, as in the architectural field. The art of the Seljuks was not made by a pure art concept but by a non-homogenous art that developed under the influence of different cultures in terms of both technical and ornamental repertoire. Important metal artifacts were made in workshops existed in The Artuqids time in the Southeastern Anatolia Region , mainly in Konya where Seljuks played an active role in politics of area. Among the most important metal artifacts of Seljuks Period , decorating the world’s special museums and collections, there are considerably many artifacts especially belonging to Artuqids. Among the characteristic works of this period, bronze mortars, which are widely used in the Near East and Europe since Hittites, constitute an important group. In this study, two mortars, which are thought to be belonging to Artuqids in Seljuks Age Anatolia, have been examined in terms of form, decoration and construction technique and compared with other similar contemporary mortars to illuminate the importance of them within the metal artifacts.

The purpose of this study is to determine the reaction of the married couples in situations where they are disappointed. In the study, married couples' responses to hurt were examined in terms of the type of marriage, level of education, duration of marriage and number of children. The study was conducted with a total of 288 participants, 141 female, and 147 male. The study utilized the Forgiveness Scale-Event scale items developed by Fincham, Beach, and Davila to determine the responses they were given when they were involved. Data were analyzed by the Chi-square method. The results show that when women get hurt, women move away from their wives more than men. When a woman is tired she gets away from her husband, does not want to do anything with her, and behaves cold. Men, unlike women, feel closer to their husbands in the shortest possible time, donate their husbands and return to their previous status without incident. Given the form of marriage, flirting and marriage tend to be more constructive than married couples. The increase in the level of education leads to solving the injuries experienced in marriage and less avoidance. The lower the level of education, the greater the tendency to avoid. From the point of view of the number of children, it is more constructive and forgiving than the ones who have no children and have children, and those who have four children.

One of the important problems that arise in the efforts of enterprises to achieve competitive advantage at the sectoral level is the ability to meet the demand for qualified human power. While making decisions to provide qualified workforce in the enterprises, the main objective is to maximize the profits of the enterprise. No matter how strong the capital is, it will be difficult for companies that do not have qualified human power to compete with their competitors, to increase their market share in the market and to reach their targets. In this context, in order for enterprise activities to be productive, appropriate and qualified workforce must be employed. In this study, it was researched whether the employers prefer to choose between bachelor's and pre-bachelor's degrees regarding the employment of the necessary staff for the same job, and based on which factors their preferences vary. In this context, in order to determine the differences that will arise in the employment preferences of the enterprises according to their sizes and areas of activity, a survey study consisting of 22 questions was conducted among the enterprises operating in different sectors in Bursa. The results obtained were analyzed and evaluated in the SPSS 22.0 program.

The first one is the provision of democratic legitimacy at the level of European citizens. It is seen that especially The European Citizens' Initiative is regulated for this purpose. In the second stage, it is necessary to talk about democracy at the level of institutions. Accordingly, institutions are criticized for the problem of transparency in practice. The issue of legitimacy at the institutional level is also being tried to be overcome by increasing the powers of the European Parliament and by directly participating in the election of European citizens. In this study, the policies that the Union implements in order to prevent from the democratic deficit and how these policies are applied to the democratization process will be evaluated.

FRAMING EFFECT OF DECISION MAKING PROCESS: THE IMPORTANCE OF PRESENTATION ORDER IN THE CASE OF ASIAN PROBLEM

The framing effect is an example of cognitive bias in which the choices that people make against the same event or situation are influenced by the manner in which the event is presented. While the proposition proposes a positive outlook, the people tend to avoid risk, while the proposal suggests a tendency to look for risk in a negative framework that highlights the losses. Tversky and Kahneman's (1981) Asian disease problem is one of the problems they used in framing effects of decision making in their classical studies. However, in this study, a study for counterbalancing the order of presentation of the alternatives offered to people was not found in the literature. In the emergence of the framing effect, besides the inclusion of propositions that bring gain or loss to the fore, does changing the order of presentation of the ones presented to people have an effect on the decision they will give? This question constitutes the main purpose of the research. A standard Asian disease problem was presented to one of the two groups, and the other group was presented with a version of the problem that changed the order of presentation. Firstly, as the basic assumption of the Asian problem, it is reiterated that the framing effect and the proposition where the gain is prioritized are more preferred than the proposition that loss is prioritized. Secondly, it was seen that changing the order of presentation of the propositions, which is the basic hypothesis of the research, did not make a significant difference on the framing effects. It has been found that the framing effect is sufficient to make a strong impact on decision-making alone.

The discrimination defined as “unjust or prejudicial treatment of different categories of people, especially on the grounds of race, age, or sex”. Most people could have not been affected from discrimination because of his/her race, ethnicity or colour. But there is no one who has not been involved in woman discrimination having a wife, a mother, a sister or daughter. The discrimination of women in the world is still a very huge problem; even many strong efforts are spent to secure the woman rights throughout the world. Although gender discrimination still exists in many professions, the situation in the maritime community is more pressing than the other sectors. Shipping has historically been a male dominated industry and that tradition runs long. One of the reasons as to why women have never taken this career option very seriously is this fact. There is little encouragement to face the very male dominated and competitive career path due to a lack of female role models. Besides one of the biggest challenges for women in this field is combating perceptions that such jobs are meant only for men and require a skill set more associated with the. Many women fear to enter the man’s world as they believe that they might face physical harassments and violence or severe verbal abuse as well as low levels of support from co-workers. Therefore one of the priorities of the international maritime community is to find a way to make women feel that their gender does not govern how they perform in a working environment and thus make it easier for women to pursue and achieve their dreams. This article intends to discuss basic facts, figures and considerations for gender discrimination to provide a basis for the future works of the Project MENTORESS (Maritime Education Network To Orient and Retain Women for Efficient Seagoing Services) led by Piri Reis University under Erasmus Plus Strategic Partnership in association with partner maritime universities from Bulgaria, Romania and Poland.
