Abstract
Grafik Tasarım'ın iki temel unsuru olan tipografik ve görsel öğeler, zaman içinde insanoğlu tarafından geliştirilerek, kitaplarda yer almıştır. Mağara duvarlarında başlayan, kalıcı görsel ve yazıların bulunduğu ilk örnekler, grafik tasarım da; kitaplar sayesinde taşınabilirlik ve kolay saklanıp, korunabilme özelliği kazanmıştır. İlk örnekleri tipografik unsurlar kullanılarak hazırlanmış, daha sonra gelişen teknik ve malzemeler ile görsellerinde bulunduğu kitaplar oluşmuş, gelişerek günümüz kitaplarına dönüşmüştür. Kitaplar hem fiziki olarak, hem içerik olarak, evrim niteliğinde zaman içinde değişimlere uğramıştır. Önceleri taşlara, kil tabletlere, ağaç kabuklarına, bitki yapraklarına yazılıp, rulolar ve tomarlar halinde oluşturuluyorken, daha sonra dikilerek, ciltler haline dönüştürüp, günümüze kadar ulaşmıştır. İnsanlığın gelişimi açısından, tasarımlarıyla bu sanat eserleri önemli bir yere sahip olmuştur. Teknolojinin olmadığı dönemlerde, bilgi akışı, nesiller boyu kitaplar ve insanların birbirine anlatması (söylem, sözlü edebiyat) yöntemleri ile sağlanmıştır. Böylece bilginin kalıcılığı yalnızca kitaplar ve yazılı eserler ile sağlanmıştır. Kitaplar, her toplumda farklı karakter özellikleri kazanmıştır. Her toplum kendi gelenek ve kültür özelliklerini barındıran kitap tasarımları, süsleme teknikleri oluşturmaya, görsel anlatımları kullanmaya başlamıştır. Böylece el yazımıyla oluşturulan kitaplar sanat eseri niteliğine bürünmüştür. Kitaplar ve onları hazırlayan dönemin grafik tasarımcıları, sanatçılar da oluşmuştur. Hiçbir el yazması barındırdığı bilgi dışında, kopyalansa bile, hiçbir zaman aynı olamamıştır. Bu özellikte el yazmalarına sanat eseri denilmesinin nedenlerindendir.

Abstract
Throughout the years, humans developed the main two components of graphic design which are typography and visual elements, that we can today find in books. The first visuals and writings found on the walls of caves, can now be found in books. Graphic Design enabled their preservation and transportation. Firstly, the typographies were combined with some techniques and materials to put together books with visuals. With more development we now have more sophisticated books. Books have been subject of evolvement, both physically and content wise. In ancient time, book contents were designed on stones, written on leaves or rolled up. Afterwards, they became horizontal and were presented with a hardcover, which lead to the current design of books. Those pieces of art are a perfect representation of the evolvement of the world and human beings, because when technology did not exist, knowledge was communicated by word of mouth or books. What makes knowledge stay permanent throughout time is literature and books. Throughout time each nation and population started adopting different interpretations and characteristics of books. They each reflected their own culture and tradition on their books, writings, design techniques and visuals. That is how books and artists covering the topics of “Hand Writing” were created. Each hand writing is unique, therefore can never be copied, as it would never look alike. Hence, why hand writing is considered as an art.
