Abstract
İlkel ve geleneksel toplumlarda fal ve falcılığa ilişkin inanışlar toplumun sosyo-kültürel yapısını etkileyen önemli bir etken olmuştur. Günümüz modern toplum anlayışında ise falcılık her ne kadar genel kabul görmese de toplumların sosyo – kültürel yaşamında varlığını ve etkinliğini sürekli artıran bir sektör haline gelmiştir. Nitekim falcılığın bu kadar ilgi görmesinin nedenlerinin başında merak gelir. Öyle ki insanın başına gelen iyi veya kötü şeylerin çoğu meraktan kaynaklanır. “kediyi öldüren, postu deldiren meraktır’’ derler. İnsanoğlunun da en çok merak ettiği konuların başında ise kendisiyle ilgili bilinmezliklerdir. Çünkü insanoğlu geleceğini, geçmişini sürekli merak eder. Merak edilen bu konular insanın çeşitli arayışlara girmesine vesile olur. Bu arayışlar da insanları medyumlara ve falcılara yöneltir. Bununla birlikte yaşadığımız çevreye baktığımızda da sosyal mekânlardaki yerlerin çoğunda fal bakma yerleri mevcuttur. Buralarda insan yaşamına dair, onun geçmişi ve geleceğiyle ilgili birtakım söylem ve tahminlerde bulunan falcı ve medyumlara rastlamak mümkündür. Çalışmanın araştırma alanını Van’ın merkezinde yer alan kafeler ve fal bakma yerleri olarak faaliyet gösteren mekânlar oluşturmaktadır. Örneklem grubu ise bu mekânlarda fal bakanlar, bununla birlikte fal bakmak için gelenlerden rastgele seçilmiştir. Araştırmada Nitel araştırma ve yöntemlerinden olan katılımlı gözlem, mülakat ve anket yöntemleri kullanılmıştır.

Intoday's modern societyconcept, although fortune-telling is not generally accepted, it becomes a sector that continuously increasesits existence and effectiveness in socio - cultural life of societies. As a matter of fact, curiosity comes at the beginning of thereasons why fortune-telling attracted somuch attention. Most of the good orbadthings that happen to human being sare caused by curiosity. “It is curiosity that kills the catandpierces the skin ir”.One of the mostcurious topics of the human being is the unknown abouthim. Because man is always curious about his futureand his past. The seare the subjects of curiosity that lead to various searches of people. The sequests lead people topsychics and fortunetellers. However, when we look at the environment in which welive, most places in social places have a fortune-telling places. It is possible to come across fortunetellers and psychics who make some statements and predictions about human life, his past and future. There search area of the study consists of cafes in the center of Van and space soperating as fortune-telling places. The sample group was chosen randomly from those who came to look at fortune-telling, however, in thoseplaces. Participatory observation, interview and question naire methods which areone of the qualitative research methods were used in the research.
