Abstract
Türk toplumunda demokratikleşme sürecinde eğitimciler daima öncülük yapmış, demokrasi kavramının toplumun alt kesimlerinde özümsenmesinde büyük rol oynamıştır. Bu araştırmada eğitimin, bir toplumun demokratikleşmesi sürecine etkisi irdelenmiştir. Öğretmen yetiştirme politikasının demokrasi eğitimi üzerindeki etkileri araştırmaya dayanak olmuştur. Değişen şartlar gereği öğretmenlerimizin demokrasi eğitimi konusunda sahip olduğu düşünceler ve bilgiler ölçülerek öğretmen yetiştirme politikalarının gelecekte değiştirilmesine dayanak olabileceği düşüncesiyle çalışma yapılmıştır.
Çalışma kapsamında Karaman il merkezinde bulunan 10 adet ilköğretim okulunda aktif olarak görev alan 102 öğretmene anket uygulanmıştır. Katılımcıların demokratik tutum ve davranışları incelenmiş ve demokratikleşme sürecine katkıları araştırılmıştır. iki aşamadan oluşan anket sorularının içeriği öğretmenlerin demokratik tutum ve davranışlarını belirlemeye yöneliktir. Anketin ilk aşamasında kişisel bilgiler, ikinci aşamasında ise öğretmenlerin demokratik tutum ve davranışlarını belirlemeye yönelik sorular bulunmaktadır.
Çalışma sonucunda öğretmenlerin büyük çoğunluğu (%95.5) günümüzde en iyi idare şeklinin demokrasi olduğunu ifade etmişlerdir. Katılımcıların %72.5’i demokrasi kavramını insan hak ve özgürlükleri olarak algılamaktadır. Eğitimde demokratikleşme sürecinde sosyal sınıf farklılıkları ve kaynak eksikliğinin bir engel olarak ortaya çıktığı tespit edilmiştir.

Abstract
Educators have always been pioneers in the democratization process in Turkish society and have played a major role in the assimilation of the concept of democracy in the lower segments of society. In this study, the impact of education on the democratization process of a society is examined. The effects of teacher training policy on democracy education have been the basis of the research. Due to the changing conditions, the study was conducted with the idea that the thoughts and knowledge of our teachers about democracy education could be measured and could be the basis for changing teacher training policies in the future.
Within the scope of the study, a questionnaire was applied to 102 teachers actively working in 10 primary schools in the center of Karaman province. The democratic attitudes and behaviors of the participants were examined and their contributions to the democratization process were investigated. The content of the survey questions, which consisted of two stages, was aimed at determining the democratic attitudes and behaviors of the teachers. In the first stage of the questionnaire, personal information was collected and in the second stage, questions were asked to determine teachers' democratic attitudes and behaviors.
As a result of the study, the majority of the teachers (95.5%) stated that democracy is the best form of government today. 72.5% of the participants perceived the concept of democracy as human rights and freedoms. Social class differences and lack of resources were found to be an obstacle in the process of democratization in education.
