Abstract
Sultan Abdülhamid, Osmanlı tarihinin en çok tartışılan padişahlarından biridir. Kimi çevrelerce ulu hakan, kimi çevrelerce ise kızıl sultan olarak anılan II. Abdülhamid’in dönemi, fikirleri ve hayatı günümüze değin merak konusu olmuştur. Bu minvalde sultanın yaşadığı dönem gazetelerinde hakkında türlü haberler yapılmıştır. Bu gazetelerden biri de 1906 yılında Edhem Ruhi’nin Filibe’de çıkardığı Balkan Gazetesi’dir. Edhem Ruhi’nin gerek dönemin ateşli Abdülhamid muhaliflerinden olması, gerekse Bulgar Emareti yönetiminde olan bölgedeki Türklerin sesi olması açısından Balkan Gazetesi önemli bir kaynaktır. Bu bağlamda çalışmanın konusunu gazetede yayınlanan II. Abdülhamid’in sağlığı hakkında çıkan haberler ve vefat etmesi halinde yerine geçecek veliaht tartışmaları oluşturmaktadır. Bu haberlerde sultanın hastalığının ciddiyeti, tedavisi, iyileşme süreci ve ölüm ihtimali gibi konular ele alınmıştır. Haberlerde genellikle sultanın sağlık durumunun kötü olduğu ve ölümünün yaklaştığı vurgulanmıştır. Gazetede ayrıca veliaht sorunuyla ilgili de haberler yer almıştır. Bu haberlerde sultanın vefat etmesi halinde yerine kimin geçeceği, veliaht adaylarının kimler olduğu, devlet içindeki ve dışındaki destekçileri ve muhalifleri gibi konular tartışılmıştır. Çalışmanın amacı, Balkan Gazetesi’nde yer alan haberleri analiz ederek II. Abdülhamid’in sağlık durumu ve veliaht sorunu hakkında dönemin kamuoyunda nasıl bir algı ve tartışma olduğunu ortaya koymaktır. Çalışmanın yöntemi, Osmanlıca gazetenin transkripsiyonu yapılarak ilgili haberlerin içerik analizidir. Çalışmanın kapsamı ise 1906 yılında Balkan Gazetesi’nde yayınlanan 12 sayıdır. Çalışmanın sonucuna göre, Balkan Gazetesi’nde II. Abdülhamid’in sağlığı ve veliaht sorunu hakkında çıkan haberler, dönemin siyasi atmosferini yansıtmaktadır. Gazete, Abdülhamid muhaliflerinin sesini duyurmakta ve sultanın tahttan indirilmesi için kamuoyu oluşturmaya çalışmaktadır. Gazete aynı zamanda Bulgar Emareti yönetimindeki Türklerin hak ve çıkarlarını savunmakta ve Osmanlı Devleti’ne bağlılıklarını ifade etmektedir.

Abstract
Sultan Abdülhamid II is one of the most controversial sultans in Ottoman history. The period, ideas and life of Abdulhamid II, referred to as the great sultan by some circles and the red sultan by others, has been a subject of curiosity until today. In this respect, various publications were made about the sultan in the publications of the period in which he lived. One of these publications is the Balkan Newspaper published by Edhem Ruhi in Plovdiv in 1906. Balkan Newspaper is an important source in terms of Edhem Ruhi being one of the ardent opponents of Abdülhamid and being the voice of the Turks in the region under the rule of the Bulgarian Emirate. In this context, the subject of this study is the news published in the newspaper about the health of Abdülhamid II and the discussions on the successor in case of his death. In these news articles, issues such as the seriousness of the sultan's illness, treatment, recovery process and the possibility of death were discussed. It was generally emphasized that the sultan was in poor health and that his death was imminent. The newspaper also included news on the problem of the heir apparent. In these news articles, issues such as who would succeed the sultan in the event of his death, who the heir candidates were, their supporters and opponents inside and outside the state were discussed. The aim of this study is to analyze the news in the Balkan Newspaper and to reveal how the public opinion of the period perceived and discussed the health condition of Abdülhamid II and the succession issue. The method of the study is the transcription of the Ottoman newspaper and content analysis of the related news. The scope of the study is 12 issues published in Balkan Newspaper in 1906. According to the results of the study, the news published in Balkan Newspaper about Abdülhamid II's health and the problem of the heir reflects the political atmosphere of the period. The newspaper gives voice to the opponents of Abdülhamid II and tries to create public opinion for the Sultan's dethronement. At the same time, the newspaper defended the rights and interests of the Turks under the Bulgarian Emirate and expressed their loyalty to the Ottoman Empire.
