Abstract
Modern Mısır edebiyatında Batılılaşma süreciyle başlayan toplumsal değişim romanın konusu olmuş, ilk örneklerinden itibaren kadın başta olmak üzere modernite ve Mısır’ın sosyal ve siyasi yapısından kaynaklanan problemler sorunsalları arasında yer almıştır. İlk dönem roman yazarları arasında adı geçen Tahâ Hüseyin, dini literatüre hakimiyeti yanında sorgulayıcı bakış açısıyla olguları değerlendirmiş, yazdığı romanlarda tevekkül anlayışını sorunsallaştırmıştır. Yazar 1934 yılında yayınlanan Duâu’l- Kerâvân (Kerâvan Kuşunun Çağrısı) adlı romanda farklı kadın karakterlerle bu olguyu tartışırken Mısır’ın Batılaşma sürecinde modernite ile toplumsal yapıdan kaynaklanan tabakalaşma olgusuna da yer vermiştir. 20. Yüzyılın ilk yarısında romanın ana sorunsallarından olan kadının birey olma hakkı ile toplumsal ve siyasi yapıda yaşanan problemlerin nedenleri arasında gösterilen tevekkül anlayışı romanda aynı karede yer almakla öğrenilmiş çaresizliğin yıkıcı gücü eylem ön plana çıkmaktadır. Çalışmada yazarın olay örgüsü içinde yer verdiği kadın karakterler üzerinden bireyin tercihleriyle yaşamını inşa etme gücüne yaptığı vurguya işaret edilecektir.

Abstract
In modern Egyptian literature, the social change that started with the Westernization process has been the subject of the novel, and the problems arising from modernity and the social and political structure of Egypt, especially women, have been among its problematics since its first examples. Tahâ Hussein, who is mentioned among the first period novelists, evaluated the phenomena with a questioning perspective in addition to his command of religious literature, and problematized the understanding of tawakkul in his novels. In the novel Duâu'l- Kerâvân (Curlew's Prayers) published in 1934, the author discussed this phenomenon with different female characters and also included the phenomenon of stratification arising from modernity and social structure in Egypt's Westernization process. In the first half of the 20th century, the woman's right to be an individual, which is one of the main problematics of the novel, and the understanding of reliance, which is shown among the causes of the problems experienced in the social and political structure, are in the same frame in the novel, and the destructive power of learned helplessness comes to the fore. The study will point out the author's emphasis on the power of the individual to build his/her life with his/her choices through the female characters in the plot.
