Abstract
Bu çalışmada geçmişten günümüze farklı yaklaşımlar ile şekillenen görüşler üzerinden mekân kavramına yüklenen anlam değişimleri ifade edilmeye çalışılmış ve toplumsal varlığın iki temel unsuru olarak nitelendirilen zaman ve mekân kavramalarından mekân üzerine odaklanılmıştır. Uzun yıllar boyunca zaman ve mekânın bir arada kavramsallaştırılması çabaları sonucunda, sosyal bilimler insan varlığının temel unsurları olan zaman ve mekâna eşit derecede önem vermiş ve zamanı (tarih) esas alan açıklamalar ve eylem biçimleri geliştirmiştir. Coğrafyacıların sosyal bilimler gündemine getirdikleri temel soru ve sosyal bilimlere yaptıkları katkı da en net biçimiyle bu noktada ortaya çıkmıştır. Coğrafya disiplini de modern dönemde ayırt edici unsur olarak mekân üzerinde durmaktadır. Araştırmanın amacı mekân kavramı ile ilgili genel bir kavramsal çerçeve oluşturulduktan sonra modernizm öncesi ve sonrasında kentsel mekânda ortaya çıkan değişimler incelemektir.

Abstract
In this study, it has been tried to express the meaning changes attributed to the concept of space through the views shaped by different approaches from the past to the present, and focused on the concept of time and space, which are considered as the two basic elements of social existence. As a result of efforts to conceptualize time and space together for many years, social sciences have given equal importance to time and space, which are the basic elements of human existence, and have developed explanations and forms of action based on time (history). The basic question that geographers brought to the agenda of social sciences and their contribution to social sciences emerged at this point in the clearest form. The discipline of geography also focuses on space as a distinctive element in the modern period. The aim of the research is to examine the changes that occur in urban space before and after modernism after a general conceptual framework has been created about the concept of space.
