Abstract

Abstract

Establishing the Democratic Party in January 7th, 1946 was seen as a new beginning for Turkish political life. The possibility of the Democratic Party (DP) coming to power, which received the support of a large mass of people, prompted the Republican People's Party (CHP) to make some new moves. One of these moves was publishing new newspaper clung to the party’s ideology. Thus, the power of the opposition, which was effective especially in the provinces, would be broken and the image of the Party, which had been eroded after 1946, would be raised again. One of the reasons why the CHP turned to such a policy was that some newspapers that were loyal to the CHP began to publish pro-DP publications, especially after the 1946 elections. The CHP Headquarters, which took action in this context, ensured the publication of new newspapers in the provinces and provided money and paper aid to the newspapers. By courtesy of the support and aid in question, a newspaper was published in Trabzon just before the 1946 elections. In this study, the process of starting the publication life of Trabzon Newspaper, which would set an example for the CHP's efforts to create public opinion in the provinces and to regain the public support that it was about to lose at that time, is discussed.
