Abstract

Abstract

Maintaining a healthy diet is important for the recovery process of inpatients. Nurses are responsible for monitoring the oral, nasogastric (NG), and nasoenteric (NET; nasoduedonal, nasojejunal) feeding of sick individuals, administering it when necessary, and preventing possible complications. Problems such as aspiration pneumonia, fluid-electrolyte imbalances, abdominal distention, nausea-vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, hyperglycemia, NG/NET catheter occlusion, and Refreeding syndrome can be seen during caregiving. Since the nutrition of individuals affected by the SARS-COV-2 pandemic, which affects the whole world today, affects the course of the disease process, it is important to determine appropriate nursing interventions. Potential complications can be avoided by providing desired nutrition through individualized care. In this review, current approaches to determining whether the nasogastric catheter is in place, gastric residual volume monitoring, feeding methods, nursing interventions for possible complications, and interventions that should be considered in the nutrition of patients affected by the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic today are given.
