Abstract

Abstract

Application of owned power and authority to another subjects and hence destruction and devastations brought about violence as a result of the harm of the violence exposed to the subject. However, it is quite difficult to give an exact definition of violence on account of its nature and depth in the past. Regarding this issue, based on the Austrian author Elfriede Jelinek’s work named the Pianist, the purpose of the work is to make the violence which was imposed on the main protagonist, Erika Kohut’s body and soul by her mother more visible through semiotical places and objects. Thus, the study is aimed to contribute to the current studies by revealing the phenomenon of violence that can be read through place and object. In accordance with the purpose, the data of semiotics and hermeneutical method were used.
