Abstract

Abstract

Due to its strategic location, Azerbaijani territories have been subject to ethno-demographic changes throughout history. The geopolitical position has a great effect on this. The fact that it is a geography where ancient nations such as Cimmerians and Sakas lived, proves that this position dates back to ancient times. The strong states of the region have tried to establish sovereignty in the region by occupying them or subjecting them. This situation also affected the demographic structure of the region. Especially since the 19th century, the ethnic structure of the region has been subject to a planned change. Following this change in historical continuity is important to show what kind of events the region is pregnant in the future. For this reason, the necessity and benefit of an ethnographic study is clear in understanding Azerbaijan and its problems. In this article, the ethnic groups that make up Azerbaijan today are tried to be discussed with their historical processes (mostly the last two centuries).
