Abstract

Abstract

In this study, it is mentioned about the Romanticism period of Polish literature and will be informed about the art of Adam Mickiewicz, one of the most important names of this period. There was no political presence of Poland in the period of Romanticism. The reflections of this movement in a country under captivity were different from other European countries. There could be no thought of dying for love like in Goethe’s work. If the hero was to die, he should bury his love in his heart and die only for independence and homeland. Adam Mickiewicz, born in 1798, is the name who opens the gates of Romanticism in Poland. The poet has served as a guide for the people who are eager for independence. In this period his works were read withgreat enthusiasm. Unfortunatelly, the poet, who spent the big part of his life away from his homeland, passed away in Istanbul in 1855. The great master of poetry is also known for his personal love life. In the study, the greatest love of the poet who encouraged him to write is also mentioned and will be tried to find answer to the question of whether his art life was shaped in another direction if the political atmosphere was different.
