Bodrum District connected Sanjak of Menteşe, whose history goes back a long way, is a complete storage of antiquities. Before it came under the rule of the Ottoman State, Bodrum Castle itself is a historical masterpiece. The beginning of archeology studies in the Ottoman Empire, XIX. is the beginning of the century. Unfortunately, all those who received research permission for excavation are foreigners. Excavation permits were given in one-year periods; the state later opted to extend these permits if satisfied. Unfortunately, the biggest problem is the smuggling of historical artifacts abroad. The excavation area in Bodrum District is around the castle and Etrim. Some of the historical artifacts were sent to the Big Museum of Istanbul,. With the excavation permits given to the British, permission was given to the British State to take the ancient artifacts to their own country. Research and study trips to the region are also quite high. Especially experts, groups consisting of scientists or people interested in the history of this region wanted to come to the region with the permission of the state. With the arrival of the Italians in Bodrum District from 1919, the pillage and plundering in the region was one. Italians did not hesitate to take the artifacts in the castle to their homeland. Apart from the Italian plunder of the Bodrum Castle, we see that the British embassy wanted the important stones in the castle. The Ottoman State took care of these stones; He did not give the stones. In our study, we touched on the status of the historical artifacts found in Bodrum District, following the archive documents.
