Abstract


DETERMINATION OF THE PREFFERED TEACHING METHODS AND THEIR USAGE LEVELS ACCORDING TO THE TOPICS BY FLUTE TEACHERS IN TURKEY

The aim of this research is to determine both the preffered teaching methods and their level of usage according to the topics by flute teachers in Turkey. For this purpose, different curriculums which are used for teaching flute all over the world were examined by the literature review. And the topics were selected from the “High School of Fine Arts Flute Lesson Curriculum”. The research is important in terms of determining the preference of teaching methods in flute teaching, answering the diversity and complexity of teaching methods in flute teaching education, giving new clues to future research and being the first research in this field. In the research; survey forms were prepared and applied in order to determine the usage levels of the preffered teaching methods. The analysis of the data obtained from the applied surveys was made with SPSS and given by tables with frequency and percentage values. As a result, it has been determined a total of 9 teaching methods (2 specific and 7 general methods ) preferred by 67 flute educators and used in flute teaching for teaching 11 selected subjects. It is recommended that the methods used for teching the historical contents to be supported by modern methods. And due to the one-to-one practices of instrument education, it also suggested that the less preferred method of collaborative teaching and peer studies can be preferred more often. As it seen in the results; the demonstration method is the mostly used teaching method for teaching the subjects of the playing techniques as it is also be all over the world. And it is reccommended to support this topics with the field trip method because observing and examining the events by the help of excursions such as concerts and workshops will increase the impact of teaching.
