STUDY OF PEER ATTACHMENT PATTERNS IN ADOLESCENTS AND OF THEIR INTERPERSONAL PROBLEM SOLVING SKILLS IN TERMS OF CLASS AND GENDER VARIABLES

In this study, it was aimed to examine adolescents' friend attachment styles and interpersonal problem-solving skills in terms of class and gender variables, and to evaluate whether there is a relationship between attachment styles and interpersonal problem-solving skills. The research was planned as a descriptive research in quantitative design and 9th, 10th and 11th grade students attending high schools in Ankara city centre were included in the study. A total of 222 male and female students attending the 9th, 10th and 11th grades of three high schools in Ankara Çankaya district in the 2018-2019 academic year participated in the study. The research data were collected using the "General Information Form" prepared by the researcher, the "Peer Attachment Scale for Adolescents" developed by Wilkinson (2008) and adapted into Turkish by Ercan (2015), and the "Interpersonal Problem-Solving Inventory" developed, and validity and reliability study was conducted by Çam and Tümkaya (2008). In the statistical analysis of the data, Mann Whitney U test was used for comparisons between two independent groups, and Kruskal Wallis test was used to evaluate the significance of the difference between more than two independent groups, and the relationship between friend attachment and problem solving was evaluated using Spearman correlation analysis. Research results: It was found that adolescents' level of secure attachment to friends increased with age, adolescents attending 11th grade had higher constructive problem solving and persistent steadfast approaches, male adolescents had avoidant attachment despite secure attachment of female adolescents, while female adolescents approached the problem negatively, male adolescents approached the problem constructively. Between secure attachment and negative approach to problems related to interpersonal problem solving, and between constructive problem solving, and persistent and steadfast approach a positive correlation; between anxious-indecisive attachment and negative approach to problem, and between self-confidence and not taking responsibility scores a significant positive correlation was found.
