Abstract


Compassion Levels Of The Students Of Health Care Services And The Affecting Factors

This research aims to determine the compassion levels of the students of health care services and the affecting factors. It is a descriptive population research, which has been conducted with the participation of 160 students. The data have been collected through the questionnaire that covers socio-demographic features and Compassion Scale(CS). Of the students, whose average average of age is 20,61±2,96, %77,5% are female, 62,5% are home care students, 58,1% are Anatolian high school graduate, 93,1% are not work, 68,8% have middle income, 36,2% were grown up in a town and 61,8% have nuclear family. It was determined that 50.6% of the students mother education level is primary education and 40% of students father education level is primary. It was seen that the majority of the students(48.8%) defined themselves as moderate religious.The average of total CS scores of the students is 71,43±8,50 and the sub-dimension average scores are respectively; 16,63±2,87(kindness), 7,25±2,46(indifference), 16,31±2,67(consciously sharing), 7,64±2,53(seperation), 16,31±4,04(conscious awareness) and 7,26±2,49(disengagement). It has been determined that age, gender, program, high school, working status, education level of mother and father did not affect the total and sub-dimension scores of the students (p> 0.05).A significant difference has been detected between the variable of “income status” and the average of total scores of CS indifference, and separation, who has moderate income were higher(p<0.05). The ones who live in a extended family, statistically have higher average scores in disengagement sub-dimension of indifference(p<0.05). A significant difference has been detected between the variable of “where they grew up” and the average of total scores of CS sub-dimension, who were grown up in town have higher compassion levels(p<0.05). In the study, it has been determined that health care services students have moderate compassion levels; income, family structure, place where they grew up are effective on the compassion levels of the students.
