The sharing economy refers to the economic relations between the parties that allow the joint consumption of assets or services. The permeation of technology into all areas of life through mass communication devices has paved the way for objects, in addition to knowledge, to become subject of economic affairs and for the birth of the sharing economy. In this study, the potential of the sharing economy, which has not relied on an integrated economic model or theoretical foundations and is a niche field of study for the economy has been questioned within the scope of finance. Besides, possible opportunities this study might offer in the future has also been mentioned. Moreover, in this study, present standpoint of the sharing economy in terms of the Turkish economy and its potentials in various fields of business has been evaluated. According to the findings obtained from the scientific studies and reports, whereas it is possible to say that the sharing economy has caused a paradigm shift in traditional production and consumption methods, it is not yet possible to completely transform the traditional market structure or create macroeconomic effects on a global scale. Although the global concerns based on legal and security are experienced in our country likewise, it can be said that Turkey is one of the countries where the sharing economy is rapidly spreading.
